Community Fridge:

The Community Fridge is a venture project of Eileen’s Free Bodega and the Community Growth Center.  The Fridge which was donated by Eileen’s Free Bodega and will be hosted and maintained by the Community Growth Center.

This is the second Community Fridge that Eileen's Free Bodega has made available to the public.  On Saturday, March 13, 2023, the Community Fridge found its permanent home at the Community Growth Center in Port Jefferson Station.  It is an outdoor stocked refrigerator that is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides free food to local residents. All are welcome to take food from the fridge, and those that are able are invited to participate in this mutual aid project by donating food or funds.

The Community Fridge located at CGC is painted by a local artist, José Flores Chamalé. It is a dedication to Jakelin Caal Maquin, an Indigenous Mayan child who died while in ICE custody.

Michael Hoffner  is delighted by this new partnership with Eileen's Free Bodega on this crucial project. "Our work starts with prayer and meditation, but it should never stop there. Our spiritual practices must lead us to action. Bringing the Community Fridge here allows us to be part of creating positive change in the world around us. As we seek to be people with hearts full of love, doing our small part to make the world a little more loving - the Community Fridge is a perfect fit for our community."

Eileen’s Free Bodega, a Brentwood grassroots organization, is known for its commitment to providing not only free food items but also free menstrual hygiene products, and baby products through the first Community Fridge and Pantry which is located at the Consulate of El Salvador 151 Alkier St Brentwood, NY 11717.

Amanda Sweeney, the organizer of Eileen's Free Bodega, was excited by the idea of partnering with The Community Growth Center to provide free food to neighbors located beyond the Brentwood area.  She stated their mission has always been “An act of service is love. We are committed to providing free food in a dignified way. We will always strive to work towards a more just society, simple acts of kindness are radical.”

The partnership between Eileen’s Free Bodega and The Community Growth Center is a testament to the power of community and a commitment to solidarity. Both organizations are encouraging residents to get involved by using and supporting the fridge right away. "The Community Fridge is at the Community Growth Center, but it belongs to the community, it is for all of us to share, benefit from and support", says Michael Hoffner.
